  • Snow or ice? Start with the Kootenay Pass Summit — the 1,774 m summit at Stagleap, first to show snow, ice and avalanche-control activity.
  • Westbound toward Salmo? Check the Creston (west) cam for conditions leaving Creston on the climb up to the pass.
  • Eastbound toward Creston? Start at Salmo — the west entrance to the pass — then check the summit before committing to the climb.
  • Coming from Castlegar? Bombi Summit covers the last big climb west of Salmo — a good look before you start the Kootenay Pass itself.
